Innovative lighting solution for an innovative research centre.
The Centre for Mobile Propulsion (CMP) at RWTH Aachen brings together theory and practice of propulsion research across 8,000 m². The institution was in the market for lighting that highlights both the open architecture of the workshop and administration building and the functional structure of the powertrain testing centre. Together with a·g Licht, Zumtobel developed a flexible lighting concept that unites design, functionality, and energy efficiency.
High-performance lighting products for research and education
LINARIA luminaires with their sleek design were discreetly integrated into the architecture, ECOOS pendant luminaires offering 360° light distribution for glare-free illumination were installed in offices and workshop spaces, and the modular TECTON continuous-row lighting system was integrated into technical areas for precise and efficient lighting.
Clever combination of natural light and heat recovery
The lighting solution employs daylight sensors and presence detectors to optimise power consumption. The waste heat from the powertrain test benches is captured to heat the workshop area, enhancing the energy efficiency of the entire building complex.
"The flexible lighting solution from Zumtobel is perfect for supporting our research center's diverse requirements and boosting our energy efficiency".
